The Pretty Reckless - Zombie (From the 2010 EP The Pretty Reckless)

Due to an actor's unreliability and dropping out of my production I was in need to find a new male for the role he was meant to play but was unsuccessful in finding anyone else willing. However because I will have to re-shoot everything I have already filmed anyway due to him dropping out (and the fact I won't be able to get to the same locations needed due to the recent weather) I have decided to change my song choice to another within the same genre (alternative rock) but one that features only one female singer who I shall get my friend, Leann, to play, the same friend involved in the original video who has proven to be very reliable and willing.

Lyric Analysis - As ever, this will just be my interpretation of the song and I believe that it is about the singer's feelings of numbness after being wronged by everyone around her.

(Intro) 0:00-0:10

I'm not listening to you, 0:10-0:13
I am wandering right through existence, 0:13-0:23
With no purpose and no drive, 0:23-0:26
'Cause in the end we're all alive, alive. 0:26-0:34

She is tired of listening to people putting her down, but she's lost the will to fight back, she is wandering through her life aimlessly.

Two thousand years I've been awake, 0:34-0:37
Waiting for the day to shake. 0:37-0:41

Two thousand years could be an exaggeration of time, how long she feels she's been struggling. She just wants everything to be over, she feels nothing anymore and wants the world to end.

Dear all of you who've wronged me, 0:41-0:44
I am, I am a zombie. 0:44-0:47
Again, again you want me to fall on my head. 0:47-0:53

A letter to everyone who has wronged her, telling them that they have turned her into a numb, unfeeling "zombie." Then, expressing her anger that they just keep pushing her down.

I am, I am, I am a zombie, 0:53-0:56
How low, how low, how low will you push me, 0:56-1:00
To go, to go, to go, before I, lie down dead? 1:00-1:12

Same as above, driving home the point that she is a "zombie" now, and asking when will her opressors stop pushing her down and when will they just kill her.

Blow the smoke right off the tube, 1:12-1:16
Kiss my gentle burning bruise, I'm lost in time. 1:16-1:25
And to all the people left behind, 1:25-1:28
You are walking dumb and blind, blind. 1:28-1:37

She is saying she's been wounded by everyone, but she also calls everyone dumb and blind for doing it.

And two thousand years I've been awake, 1:37-1:40
Waiting for the day to shake. 1:40-1:44

Dear all of you who've wronged me, 1:44-1:47
I am, I am a zombie. 1:47-1:50
Again, again you want me to fall on my head. 1:50-1:56

I am, I am, I am a zombie, 1:56-1:59
How low, how low, how low will you push me, 1:59-2:03
To go, to go, to go, before I lie down dead? 2:03-2:14
Oh dead, 2:14-2:21
Oh dead, 2:21-2:28
Dead. 2:28-2:34

Dear all of you who've wronged me. 2:34-2:37
I am, I am a zombie, 2:37-2:40
Again, again you want me to fall on my head. 2:40-2:46

I am, I am, I am a zombie, 2:46-2:50
How low, how low, how low will you push me, 2:50-2:53
To go, to go, to go, before I lie down dead? 2:53-3:02

With all these face value lyrics aside, I believe there are a several religious and apocalyptic themes in the song, but rather than focus on this I will only include some allusions to these themes, such as incorporating crosses and possibly the concept of stigmata into my music video.
